Arlington_Guard_MilitaryListen up, military buffs. There are some important military anniversaries coming up in 2014, so the time to start planning is now.

This summer marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Arlington National Cemetery. There will be a number of events, starting in May at the site of the first military burial, and ending in June at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

June 6 is the 70th anniversary of D-Day, and there’s no better place to commemorate it than the National World War II Museum in New Orleans.

The museum is also hosting a 10-day cruise on Silversea in May, with historians and authors who will guide you through important D-Day sites. You’ll dock for five days in Normandy and take part in anniversary ceremonies.

And, of course, we’ve been commemorating Civil War events for a few years now. 2014 marks the 151st Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg National Military Park has been celebrating since last year with on-going 150th anniversary events including expert talks, living history weekends, and heritage hikes.
