Follow this One Trick to Beat Jet Lag

jet_lagIs jet lag a state of mind? You bet it is. Peter flies more than 420,000 miles a year, cycling through multiple time zones in just one week. Here’s the thing, he doesn’t suffer from jet lag. And you don’t have to either.

Combat jet lag with correct travel habits. Here’s the checklist to follow:

  • Walk around the cabin. Just two walks around the cabin will keep your circulation going through a long flight.
  • Avoid alcohol. It will dehydrate you. One drink in the air is the equivalent of two on the ground.
  • Avoid caffeine. It’s most important to avoid it at least 6 hours before bedtime.
  • Avoid airline food. Eat fruit and plenty of water in the air. Upon landing high-protein breakfasts and lunches, and high-carbohydrate dinners are they way to go.

These travel habits are helpful, but the real key to beating jet lag isn’t what you do on the plane. It’s what you do when you land. No matter what time you arrive, you MUST stay up until 11 pm or midnight local time. If you succumb to the temptation of a nap you will be lost. Stay awake. Stay active. Do anything you would like, but do not sleep until 11 pm.

Remember to repeat this process for your flight home too.
