Travel Tip: How You Can Visit Horror Movie Sets

Locations in this article:  Pittsburgh, PA

Halloween PumpkinsIt’s that time of year again, when all things spooky come to life—haunted hotels, cemeteries, even haunted golf courses. But if there’s one thing that nearly everyone loves around Halloween, it’s those scary movies. This year, visit some of famous horror movie sets.

Of course, there’s no place like Hollywood to see all those locations made famous by horror movies. Dearly Departed Tours takes you through the filming locations of classics like Halloween, Invasions of the Body Snatchers and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

You might be surprised to learn that zombie movies are practically synonymous with Pittsburgh—thanks to George Romero and Night of the Living Dead. There’s a Living Dead Museum just north of the city, screenings of the classic film, and even a zombie mud run in November.

And then there’s the famous Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. It’s actually a perfectly nice property, but back in the day, Stephen King stayed there on a quiet night…and was inspired to write The Shining. Go there today and flip the television to channel 42. They play the movie on repeat, all year round.
