Travel Tip: Creative Ski Passes for 2014

Every fall ski resorts try to outdo each other with perks and upgrades, and this year there are a few new—and creative—ski passes that may just work for you.

In Crested Butte, Colorado, they’ve upgraded the standard ski pass to include lodging. The B&B/Ski Season Pass offers unlimited skiing all winter at as well as 10 nights of bed and breakfast lodging at the Nordic Inn.

Plus, the resort is lowering adult season pass prices by more than 40 percent.

And there’s also the Monarch season pass for $429. That gets you access to 12 mountains in Colorado alone, plus resorts from California to North Carolina, and even five resorts in Germany and Austria.

On the East Coast, Okemo Killington, Pick, and Mount Sunapee have a pass for college kids that offers unlimited skiing for all four mountains for $369.

Of course, as with any pre-paid pass, it’s only as valuable as much as you use it. So don’t get seduced by the idea of a bargain until you’ve assessed your real ski habits and travel plans for the winter season.
