Airline mergers have been in the headlines this week after the Department of Justice sued to block the proposed American Airlines and US Airways merger. It’s the first time the Justice Department has tried to block a proposed airline merger since 2001. The DOJ had no opposition for recent mergers between Delta/Northwest and United/Continental.
Earlier this month, United CEO Jeff Smisek sat down with Peter and Charlie Rose on CBS This Morning. Smisek noted that, “Mergers have helped [United] match capacity to demand, which has helped us become profitable.”
Watch as Smisek continues the conversation about United and the state of the airline industry today with Charlie Rose.
