Voluntourism Spotlight: Workaway Farming in Switzerland

As a student or budget traveler, hostels are not the only option. Sometimes you can save the most when you take a little time to give back. This week, we’re spotlighting a Workaway host in Menzberg, a small village in the backcountry of Luzern, Switzerland. Find out how you can work and stay for free on a local farm in this week’s voluntourism spotlight. Check back every Wednesday for more voluntourism opportunities.

Workaway is an increasingly popular option for backpackers and travelers around the world. Similar to WOOFing, the site lets hosts exchange a few hours  labor for food and accommodations. But more than just free lodging, the experience lets participants gain work experience, learn a new language, and immerse themselves in local communities around the globe.

In Menzberg, Switzerland, you’ll find a Workaway host and local farm nestled deep in the Alps. The Bussman farm welcomes volunteers to help with animal care, gardening, farming, general maintenance and then cooking and shopping. And after a few hours work volunteers are free to hike the Alps and enjoy the neighboring towns.

Visit Workaway to find out more about this opportunity.
