Travel Tip: Staying Fit On The Road

Locations in this article:  Minneapolis, MN San Francisco, CA

Now that the weather is finally warming up, finding ways to enjoy the outdoors while getting your daily workout in has never been easier. Substituting the hotel gym with running routes is one way to go.

Hotel staff can tell you where to run, of course, but if you don’t like exercising alone, options are available for you.

One option is to connect with a group of local runners. Try the regional branch of the Road Runners Club of America to find out where they’re meeting next.

Active.com has a listing of 5K’s and other races happening every weekend nationwide. And the USA Track and Field website has a searchable database for running routes.

And don’t forget, this is one of those hobbies that you can combine with sightseeing. City Running Tours has social runs lead by guides in cities across the country.

Options include a Sourdough bakery run in San Francisco, a beer run in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and a White House and Washington Mall 10K.

Of course a problem with working out during travel is finding space to pack sneakers and exercise clothes. Westin Hotels has a solution for that. The chain’s gear lending service lets you borrow New Balance sneakers and workout clothes during your stay.
