5. Slug Fest
Spend a weekend this summer celebrating the slimy yellow-green banana slug at the Northwest Trek Wildlife Park outside Eatonville, Washington. There will be human slug races, specimen observations, and arts and crafts activities for kids. As the second-largest species of terrestrial slug in the world, banana slugs are the subject of much scientific study, and are important to the ecology of the Pacific Northwest.
