Voluntourism Spotlight: Montreal—The City of Festivals

Montreal is known as the City of Festivals and one of the best ways to experience a festival is to roll up your sleeves and volunteer. This week, our voluntourism spotlight highlights the upcoming Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival, which you can attend and help the city prepare for and promote. Tune into this weekend’s broadcast of Peter Greenberg Worldwide to learn more and check back every Wednesday for more voluntourism opportunities.

Montreal is a city known for its abundance of festivals, and with these diverse celebrations of culture, come a host of volunteer opportunities. You can research volunteer happenings through the Volunteer Bureau of Montreal, an organization founded in 1937 to match volunteers with community organizations. For citizens of Montreal, the volunteer openings are continuous. Visitors have the option to take part in the short-term activities.

This month you can help the city get ready for the Blue Metropolis Montreal International Literary Festival that takes place April 22-28, 2013. This festival celebrates writers, the pleasure of reading and literary works in all the world’s languages. Prior to the festival, volunteers help distribute festival programs and promotional material to libraries, cultural centers, bookshops, and museums. Once the festival starts in April, volunteers will be needed for a variety of different positions to help the festival function successfully.

If you are interested in volunteering for the International Literary Festival, first visit the Metropolis Blue Homepage to get an overview of events. You can also visit the office located at 661 Rose de Lima Street, Suite 201 Montreal, (Québec) H4C 2L7, Metro Stop: Lionel-Groulx, or call Nicolaon Manuel at 514. 932. 1112 (ext. 31).

If you can’t make the festival, check the Volunteer Bureau of Montreal website for more volunteer opportunities or click here for a complete listing of Montreal Events.
