Travelers may think of Machu Picchu when they head to Peru, but that’s just the start. For a truly immersive experience within a local community, take part in a volunteer project. Voluntourism in Peru can include: helping out a women’s cooperative that preserves local crafts in the Sacred Valley; assisting a school on Lake Titicaca which serves 11 impoverished communities; working in a manatee rescue center in The Amazon; and something known as…hippotherapy. Oh the People You Meet founder Michaela Guzy shows us how you can go local and give back at the same time.
