Rest in Peace Andy Williams

Singer Andy Williams passed away today at 84. Peter’s relationship with him was a friend and fan. Find out more in his personal tribute.

I was so saddened to learn today that Andy Williams had died. I first met Andy when I was 7-years old and I’ll never forget that first image of him in that cashmere sweater. My father was his doctor. And I was actually on the Perry Como show–one of the kids on Perry’s annual Christmas special, a show I actually did for many years. I would see Andy often — in my father’s office, or with the legendary Kay Thompson (best known for her Eloise books), who Andy also sang with.

Most recently, when I did my radio show from Branson, Missouri, Andy came on as a guest and we had the best time reminiscing on air about those days with my mother (who was also a singer), and all those times with my father.

He was a kind and gentle man, probably best remembered for the Henry Mancini song Moon River –which branded him publicly — but also remembered by those who knew him best as a great all around singer whose songs always put you in a great and gentle good mood. His age was listed as 84, but he never aged. And neither will his songs. He will be missed.
