Ask Peter: How to Score an Upgrade & Senior Travel in Hawaii

Locations in this article:  Atlanta, GA Honolulu, HI Los Angeles, CA

Judy asked, “I want to take a flat boat river cruises in Europe cruise in two years, but I’m wondering if I should book it now, because prices are so good.”

Recently, Dan Askin from CruiseCritic.com, shared about the boom in the riverboat cruise business. Prices are not going to go that far up. They’re going to flatten out for a little bit, and you’re going to have so much more choice, not just in terms of boats but in terms of itineraries if you wait to book. I would actually wait a year to 18 months before I wanted to travel to I make the booking.

Neal in Atlanta asked, I’m doing a surprise trip for my wife’s parents. They both just turned 75, and they’ve both traveled the world except for Hawaii. We would like to send them. Where and when would you recommend they go?

For my money, you don’t want to do any more than two islands on your first trip. Most people will go to Honolulu, because that’s where the planes land. You can go there, but I like the neighbor islands. I’m a big fan of Lanai, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island.

You have so many different choices, but pick two. I recommend starting in Oahu because the plane lands there, but then get out to Kauai and Maui. The entire Napali coast in Hawaii is beautiful and you can do some great helicopter tours that are like nowhere else in the world. Keep in mind that you can do a package tour, but you don’t need to. You do want to rent a car to give them the chance to explore a lot of the island on their own and not just be stuck at the resort at the beach.
