Slideshow: The Best Places to Ride Roller Coasters

Memorial Day is here and so is the start of the summer travel season. And nothing says summer like roller coasters. This week’s Best Places for Everything slideshow will help you find the best amusement park experience.

Peter’s new book, The Best Places for Everything–-available now at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound and your local bookstore-–covers water parks, theme parks and much more. Today we’re giving you a peek the ultimate roller coasters. Check back every Friday for a different look at some of Peter’s best places.

This roller coaster might not be an extreme ride by today’s standards, but it was the fastest coaster in the world when it opened in 1920. My favorite coaster for nostalgic purposes, it’s best known as the oldest continually operating coaster in America. The ride may be more than 90 years old, but it is continually upgraded and passes all modern safety standards.  Expect a 75-foot vertical drop as speeds over 40 mph on 2,150 feet of track.
