Travel Tip: Museums for All Ages

Locations in this article:  Baltimore, MD Louisville, KY San Francisco, CA

Parents, it’s that time of year again. Time to figure out places close to home that actually engage the kids…and let’s not forget the grownups should have some fun too.

The good news: Some of the coolest events are in places that are easy and affordable to get to. How about…the Jelly Belly factory?

Sure, you’ll all be bouncing off the walls, but it’s a fun way to get behind the scenes of something really different. And it’s only an hour north of San Francisco.

Or how about…the National Pinball Museum? It opened this year in Baltimore with more than 800 vintage pinball machines. I have a feeling the grownups will be even more into this one than the kids.

I’m a big fan of the Louisville Slugger Museum in Louisville, and while you’re in town, go behind the scenes of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

And if you’re near Ann Arbor, Michigan, you want to go straight to Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum—home to a huge number of vintage, coin-operated games and animatronics. Again, I have a feeling mom and dad will get a kick out of this one.

Bottom line: you don’t necessarily have to travel far to find some of the wildest museums, no matter how old you are.
