Finding Local Hot Spots: Chicago Neighborhoods

Locations in this article:  Chicago, IL

North of town:

Green Mill Jazz: The owner of this infamous venue called in to Peter’s radio show once from his hunting camp, and some of his Al Capone stories left us with our jaws on the floor! (Capone frequented this club, whose proprietor at the time was Machine Gun McGovern) If you want a true feel for Chicago in the 20s, take the El train north to this jazz hot spot. Dave Jemilo has restored the club to it’s original glory, and Thursday nights seem to be the most popular.

Delilah’s Whiskey Bar: Everyone I polled said Delilah’s is the best in town. It has a retro-theme, the whiskey options are endless (with whiskey happy hour specials), and it is a hot spot for live music.

Sun Wah Restaurant: North of the city, Chef Danny Grant says this restaurant has the BEST Peking Duck you will ever taste! Take the Red Line to the Argyle station.

Wicker Park:

This hipster retro hood is my pick of residential neighborhoods to visit for record shops, and thrift stores and funky bars.

Big Star Tacos: Hands down the best tacos in town. The staff has a fun, funky attitude, and the fresh, creative drinks are nice complements to the modern style of tacos. Literally steps from the El Train.
