The Top 5 Ways to Commemorate the Titanic’s 100th Anniversary

This Sunday marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. From a memorial cruise to a commemorative cocktail to a live twitter feed and a 3-D screening of the James Cameron epic, there are hundreds if not thousands of ways to mark the day. We asked Ben Moroski to round out the top five ways to never let go.

One hundred years have passed since the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic. Really? I thought that just happened fifteen years ago…No, wait. That was when the James Cameron movie came out. Well, don’t worry if your chronology is a little off. There are plenty of ways to brush up on your knowledge of Titanic history and lore. Let’s count down the top five ways that people are recognizing the centennial of that fateful voyage.

1. Unsinkable Gala Dinners

Margaret “Molly” Brown is possibly the most well known Titanic survivor. She was hailed for her heroism in the aftermath of the disaster. To commemorate her legacy and that of the ship that made her famous, gala dinners are planned in Denver, Colorado, where Molly made her home, and in her birthplace, Hannibal, Missouri. The Denver celebration will feature live music that was played aboard the Titanic’s only voyage and an opulent six-course meal served by costumed stewards. The Hannibal festivities will be held aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat and will feature an era costume contest. Both events are fundraisers.
