The (Other) Presidential House

OK, so we all know the president lives in the White House in Washington, D.C. But the original Presidential home was originally in Philadelphia. Held as the executive mansion for the first two presidents of the United States, the mansion at 6th and Market streets in Philadelphia was home to George Washington and John Adams. Originally built in 1767 by wealthy colonists, the mansion housed the grandson of Pennsylvania’s founder, General Sir William Howe, Major-General Benedict Arnold, and finally, the President. The two-story, six-bedroom mansion was unfortunately demolished in a failed hotel attempt, but the city is planning a future resurrection of the historical landmark, so though you may not be able to see it, take a walk by 6th and Market Streets to envision the grand mansion that sat in the middle of the city, and then head on over to the Liberty Bell just a few minutes away.
