When booking your destination, make sure you know exactly what to expect. Hotels and vacation rentals use many terms to entice visitors, but “ocean view” or “steps from the beach” can mean many different things.

You could book into an ocean front room and look out from your window to see the Pacific or the Atlantic. Or your view might see a sea of buildings with a speck of ocean in the distance. And just what does steps from the beach mean? 100 steps or 1 mile?
