Travel Tip: Creative Kids’ Programs

Locations in this article:  Miami, FL

There’s no real definition of terms when a hotel or resort claims to have a kids’ program. But the trick is to look for an activity that actually engages and maybe even educates your kids.

In Florida, Hyatt Coconut Point is working with National Geographic Kids. Yes, the programs has typical beach activities, but counselors are also trained to teach children about the native flora and fauna as well as Native American culture.

At several Ritz-Carlton properties, kids are trained to become Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment. Through eco-tours and hands-on lessons, they learn about local wildlife and plant life while also seeing conservation lessons in action.

Looking for a more international bend? The kids club at the Mandarin Oriental Miami hotels have instructors who teach phrases in Mandarin as well as how to make Chinese crafts.

Most resort programs will give kids snacks, but how about learning to make their favorite foods? The Atlantis Kids Adventure club in the Bahamas takes kids into the kitchen and lets them try everything from pizza painting to candy making and pretzel twisting.
