Travel Tip: What’s In a Hotel’s Name?

When booking a hotel room, it’s common for travelers to expect a uniform experience from a chain property. But, guess what, branding isn’t everything. Don’t write off a mid-level U.S hotel, because those brands sometimes offer luxury accommodations overseas.

Mid-level hotel brands in the U.S, like Holiday Inn, offer more premium perks in Asia and Europe, where overall hospitality standards are higher. For example, the Holiday Inn located at Singapore City Centre in Singapore, has the amenities that are equivalent to a 5-star hotel in the U.S.. It has a fully staffed business room, a full service gym, a spa , beauty salon, gift shops, you get the idea.

Some U.S. chains have also partnered or annexed some historic European properties, so these hotels have a greater range of diversity for architecture and design. Take Best Western, for example, most of their hotels in the U.S. connote the word motel, but overseas think chateau.
