Travel Tip: Online Newspapers Worldwide

I always recommend reading up on the local news in your destination, but that’s not always easy when traveling abroad.

Fortunately, in today’s brave new world of information sharing, there are some helpful resources out there.

The Web site Newspapermap.com lets you search for newspapers around the world, with the option of filtering only English-language papers.

Or you can choose the local language, and use Google to translate it into English–although that’s going to give you mixed results.

Another easy one to remember is OnlineNewspapers.com, which is separated by continent and country. There, you’ll find a list of the local newspapers, with indications on whether it’s in English or another language.

Then there’s one that I’ve been recommending for years, which is TheBigProject.co.uk, which has one of the most comprehensive lists of English-language papers out there.

Of course, with technology like the iPad and Kindle, and resources like Twitter, access to international media is even easier. But the most important thing is staying on top of the current events, political climates, and breaking news, so if the you-know-what goes down, you’ve got the latest information.
