Andy Campbell & Kaylin Richardson, Ultimate Mountain Gig winnersEver wondered what it’s like to land a dream job? Well, these two adventurers got to live it.

As the winners of Canyons Ultimate Mountain Gig, adventure traveler Andy Campbell and Olympic skier Kaylin Richardson got the opportunity to move into Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah, and blog about their activities through the ski season.

The gig is almost up, but these two share the insider knowledge they’ve picked up this season…

To get the proper ski bum experience at Canyons Ski Resort, you need a secret run where you’ll find fresh powder long after the main runs have been tracked out.

Canyons Resort Orange Bubble Express Ski LiftYou won’t find it on any trail map but look out for a large dead pine tree on your left as you head down Diamond Ridge from the top of the Tombstone Express. It’s the marker for a locals favorite place to cut off piste and head through the trees for some fresh tracks.

You’ll probably build up an appetite with all that fresh air and excitement. Just as well that you’ll be skiing back to the bottom of the Tombstone Express again, where you’ll find quite possibly the best on-snow barbecue in North America at Tombstone Grill, featuring amazing brisket and pulled pork. Pull up a sun chair and congratulate yourself for shredding like a local!

If it’s chilly and you want a more sheltered lunch then head to the top of Dreamcatcher and get some cheesecake in CloudDine.

Going into Park City for some après ski? Hang out with the true ski-bums at Lindzee O’ Michaels at the bottom of Main Street. It has a huge selection of beers, surprisingly decent food and everything from darts and foosball to ping-pong and the dive-bar staple of pool. Ask Sasquatch (the friendlier-than-his-name-suggests barman) for some chalk to leave your mark on the ceiling along with everyone else who’s ever visited.

National Ability Center Ski ProgramsTravelers with a disability will welcome the completely accessible (and free) bus service for Park City and the surrounding area.

Just wave at the driver and they’ll drop the ramp for you.

Be sure to get in touch with the National Ability Center to rent a sit-ski so you can enjoy the slopes too if you’re not traveling with your own. Lessons are available, but book in advance.

Don’t feel like sliding down the side of a mountain but still want to enjoy the snow and amazing views? Ask about their Nordic sit-skis and take yourself on a tour through some amazing scenery.

Kaylin Richardson on Peter Greenberg Worldwide RadioIf you are with someone who is nervous about skiing double blues, have no fear. There is a lovely run to share together: Get off Tombstone Lift and take Silver Spur Run to Peak 5 Lift.

At the top of Peak 5 take Harmony all the way down the mountain.

It’s not the most technical terrain, but the experts will be equally thrilled because of the breathtaking scenery from the trail—incredible mountain views, peppered with glimpses of the gorgeous houses that make up The Colony. It’s a run that is unique to Canyons.

Here is the perfect mid-morning or mid-afternoon pick-me-up plan: ride Saddleback Lift up and then take a hard left to enter The Aspens. As you dodge through the aspen groves all sluggishness will, out of survival, be forgotten and, out of delight, disappear.

Popping out of the trees you will find yourself at the foot of Bruges Waffles

As a reward for your hard work treat yourself to the heavenly chocolate-filled Torpedo Waffle; it is positively decadent and well worth the effort of careening through the woods!

Canyons Resort Ski BeachTruly finger licking good. Trust me, I’ve seen even the most proper of ladies unable to resist!

Towards the latter half of the afternoon head to Super Condor Express and take your last runs of the day. This will not only provide a great finish to the day, but also get you away from the 4 p.m. rush to Shortcut Chair and the Red Pine Gondola, allowing for a stress-free ski down to the bottom. It will also get you first dibs on your après location of choice: will it be a beer and brat in the Umbrella Bar or a cocktail on the deck at Red Tail Grill

In this case, there is no wrong answer!

There are plenty of après opportunities up in the village, but if you want something a little lower key and closer to your hotel room door, there is no better place than Spruce at the Waldorf Astoria Park City (I highly recommend the mussels paired with a dry white wine).
