Travel Tip: Public Programs At Art Fairs & Auctions

Locations in this article:  London, England Miami, FL

If you thought art fairs were exclusively for collectors and curators to haggle over big-ticket items, think again.

These events often have free programming that is entirely accessible to the public.

The Armory Show in March brings together the entire New York art community, including artists, collectors and critics.

Tickets to the morning preview and after party start at $5,000. But don’t worry, the festivities open up to the rest of us with events like Museum Mile Day that feature public sculptures and discounted museum admissions.

Art Basel Miami Beach is a huge event in early December, where tickets can cost up to $75 apiece. But every year it also features several public programming events to showcase international art, music and culture.

The Freize ART Fair in London includes access to exclusive interviews with artists, writers and scientists.

But even if you can’t hop on a plane to London, hop on the Freize Web site to download or stream these interviews.

Bottom line: Don’t assume that an exclusive event is out of reach.

Research what they have to offer and chances are you’ll find artistic experiences at an unbeatable price: free!
