Proper Pet Travel Preparations & Common Pet Travel Problems

If you’re traveling with pets this summer, there are lots of ways to help keep your four-legged friends safe and protected on the road. All it takes is some advance preparation.

No matter where you’re traveling, keep a list of emergency phone numbers, including Poison Control, contact information for a local veterinarian, and an emergency pet hospital in your destination.

A little research ahead of time can save you frantic scrambling if something does go wrong.

It’s a good idea to carry a first aid kit for your pet.

That includes items for wounds, like bandages and anti-bacterial wipe.

Remember, ticks are a major concern for pets, and while tick lotions and collars are useful, they are not 100 percent effective.

Pack a pair of gloves and tweezers to help deal with ticks.

Another item pet owners often overlook is eyewash, which should be included for removing foreign debris and to reduce eye redness.

And guess what? Just like humans can suffer from chapped lips, dogs are susceptible to chapped noses!

Yes, it is true, dogs’ noses can get uncomfortably dry and cracked, so pack some petroleum jelly in your kit.

Last, but not least, pack along some activated charcoal tablets, which can help in cases of upset stomach or intestinal problems.

And guess what? Like most of the first aid items for your pet, it can also come in handy for humans as well.
