Mobile Apps for Finding Restaurants

The meals you eat on the road can make or break your travel experience. But instead of laboring through restaurant research ahead of time and sticking to a plan, now you can do it on the spot, searching for nearby eateries on demand with your mobile device.

You may be familiar with the Zagat Guides, which review restaurants in cities around the world.

Well now, those resources are available at your fingertips, with Zagat’s mobile page.

A yearly subscription is $20 and for that you get…well, we’re talking restaurants, nightlife and even hotel reviews, with all the contact information and directions available on any Web-enabled phone.

If you prefer a mobile application to avoid eating up bandwidth, Zagat To Go is a downloadable guide that works on various smartphones.

And then there’s an app more specifically for Blackberrys and iPhones called UrbanSpoon, which allows users to sort by type of restaurant and price range.

Or make it interesting, and click the button that generates a random selection for you!

You can even start planning before you get to the airport.

An iPhone app called Gateguruapp.com helps you find stores located in 85 US airports, including restaurants.

That should save you some time instead of wandering around the terminal hoping for something better than a slice of pizza.
