Traveling to Watch the Space Shuttle Launch

It’s easy enough to watch a shuttle launch on TV, but nothing compares to seeing it in person. Here’s how you can make that happen.

Probably the most popular way to view a shuttle launch is from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Back in the day, it used to be free, but these days NASA charges $38 for adults and $28 for children.

Or you can watch from the NASA Causeway—it’s more expensive, but it’s the closest public viewing area.

However, there are some spots where you can check out the launch … for free.

Space View Park in Titusville, Florida, is less than 15 miles from the launch pads, and even provides a live audio fee directly from NASA control room.

And there’s a launch-viewing pier at Jetty Park, south of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, is about 3 miles from the southern launch pads.

Remember, these areas can get crowded, so show up early.

And then of course, you can enjoy the launch without ever leaving your home.

Launches are viewable on NASA TV and even on YouTube.

But like I said, nothing compares to the real thing, so try to experience that at least once.
