Travel Tip: Traveling With Strollers & Baby Gear

Calvin in strollerWhen traveling with a baby or toddler, it can be tempting to leave your gear behind and rent it on the road. But there are some pros and cons to think about.

It’s true that you can rent strollers at many theme parks and zoos.

But think about the process. Renting at the park might mean lugging your child across long parking lots to the rental spot.

For some, a better option is to buy a cheap backup stroller specifically for travel.

If you’re worried about losing your own stroller in the crowd, check out a product called BuggyGuard, which are animal-shaped coils that lock your stroller and belongings to a stationary object.

Several independent and national companies like Baby’s Away rent items like cribs, high chairs and car seats for travelers.

The problem is knowing whether it’s safe, clean and well-maintained.

An association called Baby Travel Pros brings together baby equipment rental companies in North America, which must follow certain standards and practices.

And they have some tips: Call ahead to specify your child’s height, weight and age to make sure the gear fits correctly.

And check products against the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to make sure items aren’t expired or recalled.
