Flighty Feline Causes Airport Fracas at Newark International
A capricious cat briefly wreaked havoc on security at Newark Liberty International airport when it bolted beneath a bomb-detection machine and refused to come out.
The brown-and-black cat made its daring escape when a woman and her young daughter removed it from a pet carrier so the cage could pass through an X-ray machine.
What can you do to prevent your pet from becoming a menace to security? Keep reading for more details.
The elusive cat managed to evade airport security’s best efforts to apprehend it—there is no word as to whether they used a broom, some sort of bait, reverse psychology, or the dreaded squirt bottle.

While this was going on, the CTX explosive-detection device was entirely out of commission and passengers waiting to clear security had to be diverted to another machine.
Negotiations eventually reached a stalemate and police had to use a hydraulic lift to raise the machine and retrieve the cat.
The owner and the cat were reunited, but the woman ended up missing her flight to Florida.
The lesson here: if you’re traveling with a pet, whether it’s a wascally wabbit, peppy puppy, or flighty feline, make sure you have a leash or some method to restrain your pet when you remove it from the carrier.
