Choosing the Right Campsite

If you’re considering camping or RVing, remember that not all campgrounds are built the same. So here’s what you need to know before you go….

First, consider what type of campground appeals to you.

Are you traveling with young kids?

Do you want a rustic experience or more luxurious?

If you’re looking for the outdoor experience without the hassle, or are new to camping, private campgrounds are generally a good choice.

They tend to have well-kept facilities, cable hookups, grocery and laundry facilities, and are often pet and child-friendly.

Check with Kampgrounds of America at KOA.com.

It has an index of tent and RV sites, and nearby amenities such as kayaking and horseback riding.

Another great resource for private campgrounds is GoCampingAmerica.com, which covers 3,500 campgrounds with interactive maps.

If you value privacy over convenience, check out public national and state parks.

They won’t have a lot of amenities, but you will get a front-row seat to some of the most beautiful parts of the country.

If you’re just starting out and don’t know what to look for, try Woodalls, which offers both an online and a hard-copy index of all 12,000 camp and RV-sites in the U.S. and Canada.

It has a rating system, detailed reviews, and tips to make your experience easier.
