Cheaper and Closer to Home Study Abroad Programs

Locations in this article:  Paris, France

When most people think of studying abroad, they’re usually thinking of Europe or Asia, but what about Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean? You can still get a great educational experience, and often at a fraction of the cost.

If it’s too expensive to study in Paris, then how about Quebec?

The National Student Exchange Program allows U.S. and Canadian students to swap places for a semester.

Best of all, you’ll either pay in-state tuition to your host campus or continue to pay normal tuition to your home university.

If you’re a student in the State University of New York system, you can spend the semester at the University of Puerto Rico or even the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Or you can travel domestically to get to know your own country better.

Why not head to the University of Hawaii to study volcanoes or tropical ecology?

The bottom line is, staying closer to home will give you similar travel and educational benefits of a faraway place, but you can save on airfare, living expenses, even tuition.
