Travel Tip: How to Pack Winter Clothing

Winter lodgeNow that most U.S. airlines are charging to check your bags, of course it pays to carry on. But that’s a lot easier said than done when you’re dealing with winter clothes.

Here’s my advice on how to pack winter clothing.

There’s a handy technique to fit a lot of the clothes in one bag called bundling.

You take bulkier items like a sweater or coat and layer over the smaller items on top of one another, then you fold up the whole thing and you practically have an entire wardrobe in just one bundle.

If you’re really crunching try a space saver plastic bag.

They cost only about $10 and once you’ve vacuum out the air, you can fit up to ten sweaters and save about half the space.

But in general common sense has to rule here, if you’re just traveling for fun, you probably don’t need five sweaters with matching scarves.

Exercise your right to mix and match and learn to love layering thinner clothes.

And I don’t care if you’re traveling from the Sahara to South Dakota wear your winter coat on the plane instead of stuffing it in your carry-on.
