Dealing With Suddenly Non-Existent Flights

With airlines cutting capacity across the board, what are the airlines doing for you if you booked a ticket on a flight that no longer exists?

Most companies contracts of carriage state that they’re required to book you on an alternative flight or refund the price of your ticket.

But these contracts are often vaguely worded or open to interpretation.

Do they only have to book you on their flight, a code-share flight, or an entirely different airline?

If your flight is canceled and the airline tries to give you a hard time about rebooking, remember that you have rights.

Call the airline or a travel agent to get another flight lined up.

If you booked online, don’t call Orbitz or Expedia—go straight to the airline.

And remember, you want your refund in cash, not a voucher for another flight.
