Storing Your Luggage During Layovers

If you have a short layover in a city, whether it’s between flights, waiting for a train, or waiting to board a cruise ship, here are some ways to store you luggage while you do some sightseeing.

Storage lockers at train stations are usually open to the public. In European train stations, look for something called Left Luggage.

They’re not lockers; they’re staffed facilities that can accommodate several sizes.

In some cities, airports offer short and long-term baggage storage. But that’s only feasible if you’re trying to kill time at the airport.

Cities where cruises depart from often have good baggage storage: in Ft. Lauderdale, there’s public baggage storage in Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4. But, be careful—all of them close at 5:30 p.m.

The best tip? Store your luggage in a centrally located hotel.

Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, just tip the bellman a dead president like Andrew Jackson, and magically, there’s space.

Here’s another idea: Ship Your Luggage Via Amtrak or Greyhound.
