Linguitourism Language Immersion

Do you speak English? OK, so what if you could trade tour English skills for discounts on your room and board? Nowadays you can do that through something called “linguitourism.”

That’s right, it allows you to live with a local family, teach them English and it helps you pay your way.

One group is called Conservation Corp, which sets you up with a local family, you teach them English for 10 to 15 hours a week and in return you get to live in their place for one to four months at a time.

You can find programs in Brazil, Costa Rica, France, Spain and Russia.

However, there is some fine print.

The trip will still cost you about $1,000 a month to cover your meals, training, 24-hour emergency support, and insurance.

Another program in Thailand is called Go Differently.

You teach a family English and in exchange you get free room and board for one to four weeks.

And in Nepal, try a program called International Mountain Explorers, which will help arrange a stay with a family in a small mountain village.
