Protecting Valuables on the Road

Protecting your belongings on the road can be tricky, but there are ways to keep your valuables a little safer.

One company, called Pacsafe, has a line of backpacks and computer cases that they claim are “anti-theft.” Well, guess what?

Some of this stuff actually works! Bags come with built-in steel mesh panels, making it nearly impossible for someone to slash the material with a knife.

Some bags also have combination locks on the straps so you can secure it to a chair or table.

The company Diversion Safe makes portable safes which are actually decoys that look just like hairspray and deodorant cans.

If you buy three safes, they’ll send you—get this—a pair of fake dirty underwear with a secret Velcro compartment!

Or, try this trick: When you’re in a hotel room, leave a fake wallet on the dresser.

Thieves will grab it and go, leaving your real valuables safe and sound.
