Castle Stays Closer to Home

Locations in this article:  New York City, NY

You don’t have to spend money traveling abroad to stay in a castle. Turns out, there are palaces fit for kings and queens right here in North America.

The Castle on the Hudson, located outside of Manhattan in Tarrytown, was built in the 1800s but looks and feels like a medieval residence.

It also claims to be America’s first “green” castle, relying almost entirely on wind energy.

Thornewood Castle in Lakewood, Washington, has original materials imported from a real English castle, including medieval stained-glass windows.

But you don’t have to pay English castle prices: this place costs about $260 a night.

And, Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec will make you feel like you’re in old-world Europe, featuring a ballroom that resembles the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.

Actual royalty has slept here, but you only pay about $230 to spend a night in this castle.
