Preventing Lost Baggage

Locations in this article:  Hong Kong San Francisco, CA

As Peter always says, there are two types of baggage: carry-on and lost.

But now technology is catching up to help you keep track of your luggage.

A service called EZFind issues permanent labels and tags that you can stick to your gear.

If you lose an item that is tagged, whoever finds the item can call their toll-free number, and your missing bag will be returned to you at no additional cost.

The system also gives some protection against identity theft, as there is no personal identifying information on the tag.

Even airports are getting into the act by tagging your luggage with RFID chips, which can help route luggage to its proper destination and track the ones that become lost.

Currently, RFID is used at Hong Kong International Airport, Malpensa Airport in Milan and at San Francisco International they use RFID to track bags routed to the Transportation Security Administration for extra screening.
