Horse Racing Around the World

Locations in this article:  Melbourne, Australia

Many of you know about the Kentucky Derby in the U.S. and you may have heard of Ascot Racecourse in England.

But if you want to see how the rest of the world celebrates horse racing, there are some lesser-known, but equally glamorous, racing venues.

The Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne, Australia, features 50 days of racing and hundreds of thousands of spectators, which makes this Australia’s largest social sporting scene of the year.

Or, if you’re in Germany for Oktoberfest, spend a day at Iffezheim Racecourse, where 77,000 people gather to watch six days of races and a special upscale horse auction.

In Ireland, visit the Summer Festival Race Meeting at Galway Races, where seven days of steeplechase, costume competitions, and parties will keep you going for the long run.
