It’s probably inevitable that gas prices will hit a new high this summer travel season, so what can you do about it?

A lot of the things you can do to save on gas costs are small.

But added together, they can make a big difference.

For example, 17% of the cars on the road have broken or missing gas caps.

Fix yours, and you’ll save about 2 cents per gallon in fuel costs according to the Consumer Federation of America.

Or try cleaning out your car—for every 50 pounds you unload, you’ll save about 2 cents per gallon, too.

An important tip is to care for your tires—proper alignment and inflation could save you as much as 35 cents per gallon.

You can even save gas by driving a little differently.

If you try accelerating and braking more smoothly, and not riding your brake in traffic, you could improve your mileage by as much as one-third.
